What Does UPF 50+ Mean?
A UPF 50+ rating means that the fabric of your hat allows only 1/50th of UV radiation to pass through, offering maximum protection from harmful sun exposure. This makes our hats an excellent choice for outdoor activities, daily wear, and long-term skin health.
UPF vs. SPF: What’s the Difference?
Understanding UPF and SPF can help you stay better protected:
✔ UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) – Measures the effectiveness of fabrics in blocking UV rays.
✔ SPF (Sun Protection Factor) – Measures the effectiveness of sunscreens applied to the skin.
While SPF helps with direct skin protection, UPF-rated hats provide a physical shield from the sun, offering all-day defense without the need for reapplication.
Straw & Paper Braid Hats: Spot Cleaning Only
Straw and paper braid hats are delicate and should never be submerged in water. Instead, follow these steps:
Light Cleaning:
✔ Wipe away dust and dirt with a soft, dry cloth (use white for light-colored hats).
✔ Dampen a cloth with mild soap and water and gently wipe in circular motions.
Deeper Cleaning (For Stains & Oils):
✔ Sprinkle talcum powder or cornstarch on the stain. Let it absorb for an hour, then wipe it away.
✔ For tougher stains, use a soft brush and a hydrogen peroxide + warm water mix (¼ cup each).
✔ Avoid excess moisture—too much water can weaken the weave.
Storing Your Straw Hat:
✔ Keep it in a cool, dry place, preferably a hat box.
✔ Store upside down if the brim is curved to maintain shape.
✔ Avoid prolonged sun exposure—it can dry out and crack the material.
