How to Clean Your Hat
The best cleaning method depends on the material of your hat. Whether it’s wool, cotton, straw, or a blend, knowing the fabric is key to preserving its look and feel.
Felt, Wool & Structured Hats
Follow the care label for your specific hat. Avoid soaking, scrubbing, twisting or squeezing structured felt and wool hats, as this can change their shape.
Brush away loose dust gently with a clean, soft hat brush. If the care label permits spot cleaning, test a hidden area first and use only a lightly damp cloth. Let the hat air dry in its original shape, away from direct heat.
For significant stains or delicate trims, contact us or a professional hat cleaner before treatment. Cotton and fabric hats should be washed only as permitted by their care label.
Straw & Paper Braid Hats: Spot Cleaning Only
Keep straw, palm and paper-braid hats out of soaking water. Remove loose dust with a soft, dry brush or cloth.
If the care label allows spot cleaning, test a hidden area first and use a barely damp cloth. Avoid bleach, peroxide, harsh detergents and unapproved stain treatments, which may alter the color or finish.
Let the hat air dry naturally, supported in its original shape and away from direct heat. Store in a cool, dry place with the brim supported and without heavy objects on top.
